July saw the launch of ‘Golf Portugal’ published by The Portuguese Golf Club and endorsed by the Portuguese Camber of Commerce and Industry in the UK.
Bernardo Ivo Cruz, Director of the Portuguese Trade and Commerce Office, said, “Portugal is rightly famous worldwide for its many natural beauties, good food and the quality of its golf courses. Add to that the fact that you can play golf all year round, have excellent hotels everywhere and easy access by the number of direct flights from the UK to Portugal. Not forgetting the warm welcome that the Portuguese greet those who visit us, you will have the perfect mix for an unforgettable visit.
“This magazine lists Portugal’s the golf courses. Each with its challenge and settings, all of them kept to very high standards and offering the services that you need to lower your par, to clinch that business deal or just to have a relaxing day out.
“But this magazine will show you something else. It will show the variety of golf courses and their location. Golf in Portugal can be played when you are on a long holiday, on a short break or on a business trip. Wherever you go, there is always a golf course near you.”
Peter Callaghan, chairman of The Portuguese Golf Club, urged readers who have already played golf in the Algarve to consider visiting the Lisbon region and the courses around Porto, describing all of them as worthy of a visit.
Apart from providing a definitive guide to golf in Portugal the magazine has a charitable intent. Proceeds from the sale of ‘Golf Portugal’ – which has a cover price of £4 – will go towards the Balls4Cancer campaign which was launched by Mr Callaghan at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in May with the backing of Peter Alliss.
“We hope that in the first year we will reach our target of raising £1 million for Macmillan Cancer Support,” said Mr Callaghan.
