Golf du Médoc Hotel and Spa, one of the finest golf complexes in France, have established a way for anyone keen to avoid the inevitable hordes of people attending the Olympics in the UK this summer, by inviting them to their award-winning resort throughout July and August to de-stress.
The resort is gearing up for a successful summer offering various packages that coincide with the London Olympics and give UK golfers the opportunity to escape from London and the home counties for a break during the summer.
As well as their core markets of traditional golf breaks of anything between 2 or 3 nights, the resort has put together packages from 5 to 10 days, with additional activities and tours on offer in and around the Bordeaux region as well as trips to some of the world famous vineyards of the Médoc.
Henry Martinet, the General Manager at Golf du Medoc said: “We tailor our guests’ stays with all sorts of information about the wonderful area we are situated in, whether it be fine wine tours, exploring ancient Bordeaux itself or arranging gourmet experiences for them.”
Situated 30 minutes from Bordeaux, Golf duMédoc has established itself as one of the leading golfing destinations in Europe over the last decade and received the accolade of being named the best resort in France at the 2010 World Travel Awards.
Boasting two 18-hole championship golf courses, the resort has been home to many professional and leading amateur events including the Challenge Tour and annually hosting the French PGA Championship, while Retief Goosen triumphed when the French Open was staged there in 1999.
Its two courses – Les Chateaux and Les Vignes – vary in character but both are excellent tests of golf, with the former offering more of a links-type challenge while the latter is reminiscent of heathland courses found in the south of England.
With flights scheduled on a daily basis from numerous airports in the UK, Golf du Médoc is conveniently situated just 25 minutes from Bordeaux airport and the 90-minute flight time ensures that golf lovers can spend maximum time on the courses.
Martinet added: “We thought it would be a great idea to offer a different approach to appreciating the Olympic 2012 event by suggesting to UK golfers that they visit our wonderful courses and facilities and also experience the very close associations we enjoy with the wine growers of the Bordeaux region. We have specialised for several years now in supplying a combination of great golf and fine wines for our guests, whether it be for a short break or longer, and there is so much to do in the area. What better way is there to celebrate British and French medal winners than to relax with us here ?”
