Old Golf Auctions has announced the results of the recent Internet auction of golfing memorabilia, which closed on 13th January 2008.
“This was our largest auction to date, and contained almost 1,150 items,” said auctioneer Graham Rowley. “Including the after sales, we achieved a sales ratio of over 60%, sold at the auction and nearly 15% in the After-Sales which compares extremely favourably with any other auction house.
“We now have over 1,900 registered buyers. We also have a database of golf collectors who wish to be kept informed about our auctions of a further 3,200.
“A further 140 new members registered to bid in this recent auction, and buyers from 32 countries were represented in the auction overall. We continue to regard the golf memorabilia collecting market as very buoyant.
Highlights of this recent auction were:
• Several individual postcards sold for in excess of £300 one sold for £600
• In excess of 80% of the books on offer were sold
• A golf trophy sold for £2,300
• A set of Ping clubs sold for £2,800
• A 1910 rules book sold for £500
• A pair of 1900 golf shoes sold for £650
• A jewellery box sold for £1,150
• A 1952 Open Championship programme sold for £625
• A 1921 booklet by Crawford sold for £700.
Old Golf Auctions will have their next (two week) auction in latter part of March. They have a early Philp putter, a “Pipeshank” watercolour and a large collection of golf books.
