A free Operation Pollinator Workshop at BTME will give greenkeepers, course managers and club secretaries the opportunity to learn new techniques in ecological management, share experiences and best practice and get valuable practical tips and advice. It is also a chance to see what Operation Pollinator could do for their clubs.
The project update workshop, run by Bob Taylor, STRI Head of Ecology and Dr Simon Watson, Syngenta Technical Manager, will take place in The Queen’s Suite at BTME on Wednesday, 25January at 3.30pm.
A new survey of over 300 golf players from clubs across theUK, commissioned by Syngenta, has revealed that the aesthetics and environment of the golf course is second only to course design in importance for attracting visiting players to a club.
Dr Simon Watson highlights anyone passionate about the ecology on their course and looking to take positive action to create an attractive and valuable environment in which to play will want to attend. “Improving the ecological value of your golf course for pollinating insects creates an incredible opportunity to enhance the overall playing experience,” he said.
“Combining an attractive environment with exceptional playing surfaces can entice more players to your course – and the all-important income they bring. The more clubs we get involved with Operation Pollinator, the better for the future of ecology on the course, and the better for the whole golf industry.”
The open meeting aims to develop a network and share the experiences of those already engaged in Operation Pollinator and other environmental projects. It will build on the valuable insight into the opportunities and techniques provided at a series of free workshops over the summer.
Golf clubs that sign-up to join Operation Pollinator on Syngenta stand B38b at BTME will also receive a free Guide to Bees of UK andIrelandwall poster. The extra-large full colour poster is designed to hang in the clubhouse, to give members and players an indication of what they can look out for around the course.
