The ratings team at CVS (Commercial Valuers and Surveyors) Ltd in Manchester has successfully appealed a £5,000 rate reduction for Windermere Golf Club.
On behalf of the client CVS surveyor, Mark Bates sought a reduction in rates based on contesting the category of the clubhouse, the value for the green keepers’ sheds and the value for the golf course itself. After deliberation the Tribunal agreed with Mark’s submissions.
The original rating assessment positioned the club in the highest assessed in the country for ratings on the course and clubhouse as a result of its sought after Windermere location.
Brian Grundy, secretary at Windermere Golf Club commented, “Securing this rate rebate and reduction is vital for the members of our club. In order to keep running at a high standard and constantly improving, we need to keep outgoings in control to ensure members subscriptions are kept at fair level”
Stephen Cooper, Head of Rating at CVS added, “This is a unique golf club which we deemed not appropriate to being valued on the normal matrix and bands. However, it is important that sporting and leisure clubs of all kinds are not overcharged like this so that overhead are kept in check. Committees and management can then ensure that members’ subscriptions are maximised for the benefit of members in the facilities provided as a whole.
“This reduction puts approximately £11,000 with interest, back into the Club funds for this revaluation period. Whilst the amount may not appear newsworthy, it demonstrates our tenacity to address all over assessments.”
