World famous golf resort and 2014  Ryder Cup venue Gleneagles now boasts an enhanced, state-of-the-art main practice tee area, thanks to the expertise of Huxley Golf and their range of premier quality all-weather golf surfaces.

In the run up to the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, the world renowned resort wished to enhance the facilities at itsPGANationalGolfAcademy. With the academy already featuring Huxley Golf’s Premier Tee Turf in the short game area, the  Gleneagles team once again sought the expertise of Huxley Golf, this time to improve the academy’s main practice range and ensure a truly world class experience for golfers.

After careful consideration of their requirements with Huxley Golf, Gleneagles decided on a 250 square yard area of Huxley Premier Tee Turf 2 for the main practice tee playing surface, as this latest specification all-weather tee turf provides a very high quality, low maintenance, surface which enables all standards of golfer to enjoy practising any shot in the bag, from driver to pitching wedge. Just like natural turf, shots can be played directly off the surface or from a standard tee peg inserted anywhere in the pile.

To complete the overall enhancement, Gleneagles selected Huxley Golf’s new Premier Leisure Turf 35 to provide an attractive and durable, low maintenance all-weather lawn surface on a 200 square yard area immediately behind the Huxley practice tee.

Since the installation, the new Huxley Golf practice tee surface has continued to receive high praise from both staff and visitors at Gleneagles.

Andrew Jowett , Senior Golf Professional at Gleneagles explained: “The Huxley Golf surface has blended in seamlessly to the Gleneagles practice environment, allowing us to retain the appearance of a wonderfully natural facility. Ultimately, this has allowed the five-star, on-course experience of The King’s, Queen’s and PGA Centenary to be brought forward to include warm-up and practice time too.”

He continued: “Guests are now afforded a far more realistic surface to hit balls from, delivering greater feel and feedback than ever before, with less artificial resistance than that provided by mats. The ability to tee balls to individually preferred heights offers greater flexibility and, again a more realistic golfing environment. Feedback has been overwhelmingly supportive, highlighting the integration of the Huxley Premier Tee and Lawn Turf as a positive improvement to The Gleneagles practice facility.”

Commenting on the practical benefits of the new Huxley Golf installation, Scott Fenwick, Golf Courses and Estate Manager at Gleneagles, added: “The tee surface requires very little maintenance from the greenkeeping staff with no filler being required due to the dense pile and affords the green staff more time to spend on the golf course.”

Paul Huxley, Huxley Golf Managing Director, said: “We were delighted to be invited by Gleneagles to discuss their requirements again and we are very pleased that this latest Huxley Golf all-weather installation has met all their expectations.

“During the last few years, Huxley Golf has been proud to install our premier all-weather practice surfaces at several major championship and tournament venues, as well as at many prestigious courses in theUKand overseas. It was a pleasure to work with the Gleneagles team again at this world famous resort where all standards have to be the very best.”
