The Travis Perkins Group, leaders in the UK construction industry, has confirmed a three-year agreement to become title sponsor of the Travis Perkins Group Senior Masters at Woburn Golf Club from 2008.
The Travis Perkins Group Senior Masters will be played over the world-famous Duke’s Course from 29-31 August 2008. The Travis Perkins agreement extends up to and including the tenth anniversary of the tournament in 2010.
The Travis Perkins Group includes some of the leading brands in the UK builders‘ merchanting and home improvement markets – Travis Perkins, Keyline, City Plumbing Supplies, CCF, Wickes and Benchmarx – and has 1,080 branches across the UK.
Travis Perkins will assume the title sponsorship of one of the premier events on the European Seniors Tour Schedule. They previously title sponsored the Wentworth Senior Masters from 2002 to 2005, played over the Edinburgh Course at Wentworth Club.
John Carter, chief operating officer, Travis Perkins plc, said, “We are pleased to once again be a sponsor of one of the European Seniors Tour events. It is an excellent opportunity for our businesses to get closer to our customers and suppliers and for us as a Group to be associated with such a prestigious event. We look forward to Woburn delivering a world class event representative of both organisations.”
Geoff Irvine, special adviser to the managing director of the European Seniors Tour, has been closely involved in reintroducing Travis Perkins to seniors golf.
He said, “Andy Stubbs and I are delighted that Travis Perkins are rejoining the Seniors Tour and we look forward to welcoming their executives, staff and clients to one of the premier events of the season.
“Woburn Golf Club has been a marvellous host to the Senior Masters for a number of years and the combination of a renewed three year agreement with Woburn Enterprises and Travis Perkins creates a potent combination for the future.”
Golf was first introduced at Woburn by the late 14th Duke of Bedford in 1973, with the construction of the Duke’s and Duchess Courses on his estate, in 1976 and 1978 respectively.
Woburn Golf Club first hosted a professional tournament on The European Tour Schedule in 1979, when Australia’s Graham Marsh won the Dunlop British Masters over the Duke’s Course. Woburn Golf Club duly staged a further 15 British Masters, until 2002, when England’s Justin Rose won, and has hosted seven European Senior Masters since 2001.
The Duke of Bedford said, “On behalf of my family and the members of Woburn Golf Club we are very pleased the Senior Masters will be returning to Woburn for the next three years under the title sponsorship of the Travis Perkins Group.
“We look forward to welcoming Travis Perkins to Woburn and we are confident that their involvement, coupled with our relationship with the European Seniors Tour will enable us to ensure that our eighth Senior Masters is our strongest event to date, with an excellent field competing for an improved tournament purse on the Duke’s Course.”
