Seniors Tour set for first visit to Czech Republic in 2008

The European Seniors Tour will make an historic visit to the Czech Republic next year, with the signing of the agreement to stage the inaugural Foxconn CZ Open at the newly opened Casa Serena Golf Course from 5-7 September.

Carrying a prize fund of €600,000, the Foxconn CZ Open will represent the Seniors Tour’s first visit to the Czech Republic and will be the third richest event on the 2008 Seniors Tour Schedule thanks to the personal support of Foxconn Group founding chairman, the industrialist Terry Gou.

Casa Serena Golf Course is one of European Golf Design’s latest and most exciting projects. Designed by Robert Hiseman, Casa Serena is an inland links style layout that will prove a stern test for the Seniors Tour professionals.

Andy Stubbs, managing director of the European Seniors Tour, said, “We are delighted to be adding such an exciting new event to the 2008 European Seniors Tour Schedule. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Terry Gou, whose vision and support have made the Foxconn CZ Open a reality, while tournament promoters Jim and Maureen Chang have been instrumental in bringing the tournament to fruition.

Terry Gou, chairman and CEO of Foxconn commented, “I am truly delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with a socially conscious organisation like The PGA European Tour and to be able to witness this prestigious European Seniors Tour event coming to the Czech Republic. There is certainly no better place than Casa Serena Golf Course to host such a significant event.”

Casa Serena is located deep in the Czech countryside, an hour to the east of Prague. The golf course is set to be an exclusive, luxury golfing retreat for Foxconn ’s executives and clients.

EGD’s design brief was to create an ‘inland links‘ style layout, with rugged out-of-play areas and great swathes of flowing fescue grasses to contrast dramatically with the immaculately presented playing areas. The undulating site, containing few trees within the boundaries, is ideally suited to the creation of a dramatic, pseudo-links.
