Eléa Estate in Cyprus, featuring Sir Nick Faldo’s 18-hole ‘Mediterranean masterpiece’, celebrates its first anniversary this week and looks back on a year of critical media acclaim and a host of industry accolades.

It is exactly 12 months since Sir Nick cut the opening ribbon at the Paphos development and in that time it has been heralded as the ‘Number One Golf Course in Cyprus’ by top100golfcourses.co.uk; named as one of the ‘Top 10 New International Golf Courses of 2010’ by Golf Magazine in America; and recently picked up four accolades at the International Property Awards, including ‘Best Golf Development in Europe 2011’ and ‘Best Leisure Development in Europe 2011’.

Sir Nick Faldo said: “I applaud the number of awards received by Eléa Estate – and am honoured by those accolades that recognise the distinctiveness and character of the golf course. Zenon Eliades, chairman of Eléa Estate, and his team have created something very special at Eléa and I am proud of the contribution Faldo Design has made to its success.”

Zenon Eliades added: “Eléa Golf Club will always pride itself on delivering an above-expectation level of experience, whether it is on the golf course, in ourGolfAcademyor through our food and beverage operation, and judging by the first 12 months of trading, our accolades are evidence we are giving customers something very special.”

The 6,900-yard layout circulates through groves of mature carob and olive trees, while dramatic outcrops of weathered limestone strikingly contrast with the dark green fairways that, on many holes, are fringed by Mediterranean grasses and an abundance of wild herbs and native flora.

The course is supported by The Eléa Golf Academy that sits alongside the clubhouse. It features a full-length driving range complete with target greens and bunkers, a short game practice area and a stunning putting green, which commands an imposing location overlooking the whole course.

Ross Robertson, Director of Golf Operations at Eléa Estate, said: “Our objective from day one was to create a club that mirrored some of the other great golf courses of the world. It is encouraging to see that we are now being consistently talked about alongside golf clubs already steeped in the rich traditions of the game…and after only a year!”

In making Eléa Golf Club its preferred golf course in Cyprus, the Top100golfcourses ranking experts commented: “The arrival of the new Sir Nick Faldo-designed course at Eléa Estate has stratospherically raised the Cypriot bar. The vision of Eléa Estate is to be a place where people enjoy life and if you like golf, then you will enjoy Sir Nick’s Eléa.”

The Eléa Golf Club, is the centrepiece of Eléa Estate, a premium community owned by Nicosia-based company S.Z. Eliades Leisure and master-planned by renowned international firm, Hart Howerton.

Eléa Estate is currently offering various exclusive homes off plan, designed by Ergo 7 and with interiors created by London-based architectural design experts MKV. In the future it will also have a boutique hotel supported by a range of dining options, traditional village square and extensive spa facilities.
