A considerable and rare ball collection

12.20am 1st October 2007 - Salesroom & Memorabilia

A wonderful collection of 1,500 signed golf balls is being sold at the online auction site www.oldgolfauctions.com

The collection belongs to American Don Bobillo’s. Don volunteered over thirty years of his life to Arizona golf almost all of those as caddie master at the Phoenix – Tucson Opens – The Tradition tournament, coupled with major LPGA tour events and Amateur Championships in the Arizona state.

Not only was he a caddie he was a very keen golfer and even a keener collector of signed mementos. He became personal friends with many of the players, none bigger than the late Payne Stewart who along with other notables gave him signed balls they had played tournament golf with or personalised balls taken from their bags.

Don took great store in obtaining early tournament logo balls then getting the winner to sign it (a rare combination). Having a collection that reaches over 1,500 put him right at the top of the tree in this collecting field. Most golfers are reluctant signers of balls, endorsement problems signing on uneven surfaces or whether they just refuse to sign, this is an awesome collection that’s taken 30 plus years to build.

In this collection you can find balls signed by Hogan – Snead – Nicklaus – Palmer – Tiger Woods and 100s of other notable golfers past and present
