Crown Golf, the UK’s largest golf course operator with 32 properties in its portfolio and more than 50 courses, has been named Golf Group of the Year 2007 in the annual ClubHouse magazine awards. The London Golf Club was crowned Clubhouse of the Year for the second consecutive year.
The ceremony was held at The Warwickshire Golf and Country Club on Monday, 10th September.
Crown chief executive Peter Manby collected the award on behalf of the group and said, “I am proud to have received this award. It is great recognition for all the teams in our clubs who strive every day to offer a great experience to our members and visitors.”
For the Golf Group of the Year award, judges were looking for a golf group which could demonstrate an ability to create and sustain standards across its entire portfolio. The judges took into account the number of clubs owned by the group, the quality of each establishment and what they can individually offer guests.
Caroline Scoular, editor of awards organisers ClubHouse magazine, said, “Crown Golf not only managed to tick all the above boxes but its view to the future was certainly a positive one with plans to expand through acquisition and membership. Overall, Crown Golf shone though as a superbly managed golf group, with the financial back up to set it apart from the rest.”
The London Golf Club was up against stiff competition for the title of Clubhouse of the Year with Celtic Manor, Sunningdale and Gleneagles among the golf clubs nominated in the category.
ClubHouse Magazine first voted the London Golf Club the UK’s best Clubhouse in 2006. Continued renovation works this year with the recently refurbished Long Bar and the new men’s and ladies’ wash room facilities helped secure the award once again this year. The Club was also nominated for its catering.
