Yes! Golf in the UK and Ireland this year pioneered an initiative to place the putter on an even footing with other clubs in the golf bag and is currently pursuing an active programme of setting up C-Groove Custom Centres at golf clubs and selected retailers.
With a growing emphasis on custom-fitting for sets of golf clubs, the putter market is comparatively under-serviced on this level. Yes! Golf is an exception, however, in that the company was one of the first putter specialists to collaborate with biomechanics experts to define, quantify and prove the unique efficiency of the C-Groove concept.
Its partner in this endeavour is The Quintic Consultancy, whose MD and chief biomechanist Dr Paul Hurrion’s putting knowledge and proprietary software research has made this package the most effective putter customization proposition available anywhere.
“To have woods and irons fitted with different shafts, heads and grips is now much more viable from a cost point of view for a growing number of club golfers,” explains Yes! Golf MD Peter Allison. “But putters have been a poor cousin in this regard, and that’s very odd when you consider how many scores are ruined by below average performance on the putting green. A customized putter can make a world of difference.”
Most putters come in a standard configuration, but aspects such as shaft length, grip, or loft and lie of the putter head can be professionally adjusted for an individual, and often to extraordinary effect – and often, at no extra cost to people buying a Yes! Putter.
The Quintic software is used to analyze in minute detail, video of a player’s stroke and interface with the putter. The data are then used to make physical adjustments to the putter itself, to render it more accurate, biomechanically sound and more consistent.
“Really, to have a set of clubs custom-made and neglect the putter is not a true custom-fitting solution to my mind,” insists Peter Allison. “It detracts so much from the overall benefit of the custom idea and utterly defeats likely benefits such as confidence and consistency in scoring.”
C-Groove Custom Centres are already open in the south-west, Wirral, south-east London and the Midlands, with Belfast (Royal County Down) and Essex due in the near future.
