Nick Faldo has announced details for this year’s Faldo Series grand final, which returns to The Celtic Manor Resort on 9th – 11th October 2007. The event promises to be the largest ever, with a total field of around 70 players, representing some of the best young golfing talent from around the world.
Now recognised as an official R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking event, the 54-hole tournament will be played over Celtic Manor’s Roman Road course, which played host to The Celtic Manor Resort Wales Open on this year’s European Tour. As ever, Nick Faldo will be on hand to host the tournament and to pass on some of the experiences that he has amassed during three decades on the professional golf circuit.
Nick Faldo commented, “I’m delighted to announce details for this, our largest Faldo Series grand final to date. The standard that these young golfers are achieving is very impressive and we hope that we can do our bit to help them to emerge as well-rounded golfers with an appreciation for every facet of the sport.
“This year’s tournament will also have a real international flavour with invitees from across the globe following recent Faldo Series championships at top-class venues from Ireland to Iceland and from Thailand to Chinese Taipei. The best of British talent will be given a unique opportunity to compete against and also integrate with their peers from throughout the world and that is a very exciting prospect.”
Now entering its 11th season, past Faldo Series champions include European Tour stars Nick Dougherty, Marc Warren, James Heath and Oliver Fisher; and Ladies European Tour professionals Anna Highgate and Kiran Matharu. These and many other protà©gà©s have benefited from Nick’s personal advice and experience and all are now role models to the next generation.
Following the launch of the Faldo Mini Series last year, there will also be a number of young golfers, under the age of 11, invited to the final to meet and spend time with Nick Faldo. It is hoped that these young golfers will be inspired by the experience and eventually go on to participate in the Faldo Series itself.
Underwritten by Nick Faldo, the Faldo Series is part of The Faldo Trust for Tomorrow’s Champions (charity no. 1102719), a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. A number of brands, businesses and individual patrons lend their support, as do the PGA, The R&A and The European Tour.
The Faldo Series now provides opportunities for up to 1,300 talented young golfers each year, male and female aged 11-21, and simultaneously introduces the game to many more. Combining competition with education, the Faldo Series features 30 tournaments each year at some of Europe’s finest courses plus a unique programme of seminars on different aspects of the game.
Team Faldo is a group of current and former Faldo Series players, amateur and professional, who receive additional support and advice from Nick. These protà©gà©s are handpicked by Nick and are invited to spend time with him throughout the year, in the UK and abroad.
