The European Seniors Tour is delighted to announce that Midas Group will continue as title sponsor of the English Seniors Open, which this year will see England’s Carl Mason seek an unprecedented fourth consecutive victory in the tournament at St Mellion International Hotel Golf & Country Club, Saltash, Cornwall from August 17-19.
The 2007 Midas Group English Seniors Open, which will be played over 54 holes on the Nicklaus Course at St Mellion, will carry a prize fund of £150,000 and, aside from the defending champion, former Ryder Cup players Gordon J Brand of England, Eamonn Darcy of Ireland and Spain’s Josà© Rivero are some of the leading contenders to have also entered the event.
Mason won the English Seniors Open in 2003 and 2004 on his way to topping the European Seniors Tour Order of Merit in both years, before completing the hat-trick when the tournament returned to the Seniors Tour Schedule after a year hiatus.
By finishing with a winning 54 hole total of four under par 212, one stroke better than Australian Stewart Ginn, Mason became the first golfer to successfully win the same European Seniors Tour event three times in succession.
