Callaway Reveals First Gore-Tex® Range

12.05am 6th June 2007 - Corporate

Callaway Golf apparel is to offer GORE-TEX® rain and wind wear at a price that makes the world’s leading weather protection fabric accessible to a wider audience.

GORE-TEX® fabric was invented in 1969 by Bob Gore. He discovered that by stretching Teflon very quickly, it can be turned into a micro-porous membrane which is light, thin, slippery and very strong. This fabric consists of billions of tiny holes large enough to let perspiration out but small enough to prevent rain droplets getting in. How this incredible performance membrane is attached to a wide variety of materials remains a very closely guarded secret and is the reason why GORE-TEX® fabric remains the number one global provider of water and windproof breathable technology.

Designers at Callaway Golf apparel have been working very closely with GORE™ for many months to develop a range of water and wind proof products to suit every golfer’s needs and budget.

The range’s signature waterproof suit – the men’s GORE-TEX® Paclite® Shell – sports Callaway Golf apparel’s distinctive black, white and fusion orange colour story. Utilising Gore™ Comfort Mapping Technology, the suit offers maximum breathability, durability and playability designed to protect golfers from even the most persistent rain and wind conditions. The suit is incredibly lightweight, machine washable and available for cresting.

A selection of other GORE-TEX® suits is also available for men, offered at various price points. Trousers and jackets can also be mix and matched offering the range total versatility.

Grahame Jenkins, managing director of Ashworth Europe, Licensee of Callaway Golf apparel, says, “This product range is one of the most exciting developments in the brand’s history and enables us to make a huge impact on the technical outerwear market. The current product range marks ‘phase one’ of development and we will be introducing a second wave of products, including a GORE-TEX® suit for ladies, sometime in the next twelve months.”

In addition to licensing the GORE-TEX® fabric technology, Callaway Golf apparel has also gained the rights to utilise GORE’s WINDSTOPPER® fabric technology to produce a number of windproof products. The range comprises of the men’s WINDSTOPPER® Soft Shell Jacket, available in Black/Orange Fusion and Black/Deep Sea Blue and the Men’s WINDSTOPPER® Lined Sweater, available in Black, Aloe and Stone. Both products are machine washable.

John Overdijking, Gore Associate, responsible for the golf market in the UK says, “This is a very exciting partnership for us. The future positioning and success of the GORE-TEX® and WINDSTOPPER® products are reliant on the selection of strong brand partnerships. Callaway Golf apparel is a well known and respected global brand and I am confident that this association will enhance our position as the market leader in waterproof and windproof breathable technology.”
