PowerPlay Golf, the exciting new way to play golf featuring two flags on each green, has launched a website to help golfers find out more about the game.
www.powerplay-golf.com launches on Friday 20th April after thousands of golfers and golf clubs world wide demanded to know more about the format, which is designed to reward adventurous play.
The site encourages golfers to register free of charge to receive updates about PowerPlay Golf, which has become a global talking point following its launch earlier this year at Playgolf Northwick Park in London.
Golfers can also find details on the London PowerPlay Golf Championships pilot event, scheduled to start in May 2007, details of the UK-wide launch event PowerPlay Golf Day on 1st August 2007, and by registering will also receive alerts about the ‘Summer of PowerPlay Golf’ – a series of events being rolled out to showcase the new format across the UK.
Former Walker Cup captain Peter McEvoy, one of the format’s creators, said, “PowerPlay Golf has the potential to revolutionise how golf is played and enjoyed all over the world and we have been swamped with enquiries since its launch.
“Powerplay-golf.com gives golfers, golf clubs and event organisers a flavour of what is being planned and, more importantly, allows them to sign up now to become an official part of the worldwide PowerPlay Golf community.”
PowerPlay Golf is played over nine holes and features two flags on each hole, one black, one white. Double stableford points are awarded to golfers who successfully score net birdie or better when going for the ‘PowerPlay’ black flags. They must use three ‘PowerPlays’ during the round.
On the final tee in PowerPlay Golf, golfers face an important decision that can produce a late points surge – or a last-hole penalty. They can nominate to shoot for a ‘SuperPlay‘ target area around the final pin, gaining bonus points for accuracy but risking penalty points if they miss. It is a choice that – if refused – can lead to questions being asked about a golfer’s nerve.
The added drama of PowerPlay Golf’s ‘risk and reward‘ format is therefore sustained to the final green.
A new company, PowerPlay Golf Ltd, has been set up to launch the game around the world.
