European Golf Design’s latest project PGA National Russia, has won its first award, even before construction is complete. Voted by “Magazin”, Moscow’s leading real estate magazine, the course was awarded “Best New Design in Russia 2011” in the leisure category.

Forming part of the new exclusive Zavidivo Resort Community, the PGA National Russia is an eighteen hole, 7,400 yard course, characterised by wide fairways, undulating greens and heather clad bunkers.

Zavidovo Resort, located 130km north west of Moscow, will include  five thousand dwellings, two marinas and a vibrant town centre when complete. Alongside the golf course will be a 9 hole academy course featuring a PGA National Golf Academy. Leading Russian professional golfer Maria Verchenova will be attached to the Club.

Construction began in 2009, and all seeding is now complete. The golf course will be open for limited play by the end of this year, with an official opening date of July 2012. Construction of the clubhouse is also progressing well and will be completed by May 2012 in time for the opening towards the end of next year.

European Golf Design’s project architect, Dave Sampson, said: “The course is looking fantastic and the quality of work carried out by Braemar Golf and the local contractors GeoKam, has been superb. The heather clad bunkers look fantastic and give the course a unique character. We are delighted with how the construction phase has progressed and are looking forward to putting the finishing touches to this great project. Further, we are thrilled to have been recognised by “Magazin” prior to the official opening of the course.”
