Monty’s Chinese designs

10.00am 18th January 2000 - Course Development

Colin Montgomerie is to design a new golf course at the Zhuhai Golden Gulf development – his first project in mainland China.

The European No 1’s design company is already working on the construction of layout in Hainan Island (off the Chinese coast), Korea, United Arab Emirates, Lanzarote and Ireland.

But the 36-year-old Scot says he has been impressed by the whole development at Zhuhai – and aims to have the 27-hole course ready for use by the end of 2001.

Montgomerie said: “I am convinced Zhuhai Golden Gulf can become of the best courses in China and we are designing it as a potential future venue of world-class golf tournaments.”
