A range of novel tee pegs that bend at the waist when struck by a golf club before returning automatically to an upright position has been launched in the UK and Ireland by specialist provider of golf practice, coaching and playing aids, Birdygolf.
Developed by Korean golf products company, Koviss, the VS (vital spring) and TT (tumbling magnet) tee pegs are designed to minimise any reduction in the speed of the club head or deflection of the club face as the golf ball – and its supporting tee – are struck.
The solid, unyielding construction of conventional tee pegs made of wood or plastic means that golfers cannot be certain that they’ve hit the ball off the tee with the maximum intended power and accuracy. Using a Koviss VS or TT tee peg helps reduce this uncertainty, ensuring that virtually the full force of a driver, metal wood or iron is applied fair and square to the ball without any interference from the tee peg. The result is a smoother, cleaner contact that should help deliver consistently greater distance and improved accuracy.
Available initially in three different designs to suit golfers of all standards from beginners to touring professionals, the VS tee features an internal spring that allows the top half of the peg to bend by more than 90 degrees when impacted by the golf club. Because the VS tee is able to flex in any direction, it can be inserted without thought into the ground just like a conventional tee peg. Bending freely as the shot is played, the VS tee peg is restored immediately and automatically to an upright position by its internal spring ready for the next time of use.
As an alternative to the three Koviss VS tee styles, Birdygolf also offers the TT tumbling magnet design which is able to deflect at the waist by more than 90 degrees through a horizontal arc of 180 degrees. Although the TT tee peg must be inserted into the ground so that its hinge point faces broadly in the direction in which the ball will be played, the use of magnets (rather than a spring) to return the peg automatically to an upright position is said to enhance long-term durability, making the TT tee peg better suited for use by higher handicap players as well as beginners.
Manufactured from tough, impact-resistant urethane, Koviss VS and TT tee pegs are designed to provide exceptional durability for a long and trouble-free life, minimising the risk of breakage and bending associated with traditional tee pegs. All designs conform to USGA and R & A Rules and come in a range of colours to promote maximum visibility and fast location after use.
