Colin Montgomerie has been signed up to design an 18-hole tournament golf course and 9 hole short course for the Riffa Golf and Residential Development Company in The Kingdom of Bahrain.
Monty, will work on the design of the 27 holes in association with European Golf Design, the joint venture design company of the European Tour and IMG, with whom he worked with at Carton House, Ireland. They will work together to create two spectacular courses which complement Riffa’s vision to create ‘a community where an international standard golf course is only one of your daily amenities, a community where the life you imagined simply is.’
Riffa views, set in 28million square feet, with over 900 villas, is a luxury development which will include 24-hour security, an international school, restaurants, cafes, Masjid, Country Club, Spa, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, and many other sports, entertainment and social activities.
Monty enthused, “I am delighted that Riffa has asked me to design both an 18 hole PGA Championship Course and a 9 hole course. Both courses present different and very exciting challenges and I can’t wait to get started. I am really enjoying developing the course design side of my business and to be involved in Bahrain’s first project of this magnitude is a terrific honour.”
While Colin Montgomerie Design is on the cutting edge of new design concepts and technology, Colin’s own Scottish roots and his appreciation of the traditions of the game have resulted in his design company embracing a more traditional orientation, in terms of the basic design principles that have stood the test of time.
Richard Browning, CEO of Riffa Golf and Residential Development Company said, “We are absolutely thrilled to have Colin Montgomerie and European Golf Design on board. This is the first project of its kind in Bahrain, which incorporates leisure and international standard real estate in a scenic and tranquil community setting and having a golfer and course designer of Colin’s calibre on board gives our golf facilities wonderful integrity.”
