Supporters of grass roots junior golf from the world of business and sport have signed up to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Golf Foundation Pro-Am, which takes place on 9th October at The Buckinghamshire.
First held in 1986, the Golf Foundation Pro-Am raises money to help fund the development charity’s commitment to make golf more accessible to children and to offer them a good start in the game. Many thousands of pounds have been raised through the event over the years. This year’s revenue will go towards Golf Foundation initiatives in schools and club link projects, which form part of England Golf’s ‘Start’ initiative in the Whole Sport Plan. The Golf Foundation is a supporter of England Golf’s mission to grow the game.
Up to now, 22 teams have booked a place in the event, which is backed by the PGA European Tour and held at The Buckinghamshire, one of the south’s most prestigious and welcoming golfing venues. Teams of three amateurs will link up with a professional to do battle for prizes in a tournament which has become a highly popular date in the Autumn golfing calendar. A Champagne breakfast, on-course challenges (eg, longest drive and nearest-the-pin winners receive excellent PING Craz-E-Lite carry bags), a charity auction and dinner are all added attractions on the day.
Final team spaces for the event were being booked at the time of writing but there were a small number still available.
Money raised through the Pro-Am will go towards some of the Foundation’s key initiatives, including Tri-Golf in schools (Tri-Golf is a modified golf game that is colourful and safe and has been introduced to 3,000 primary schools during the last three years) and the new Golf Xtreme initiative, the fun introduction to golf and its educational benefits, aimed at the 11-16 year-old in secondary schools.
Golf Foundation Chief Executive Mike Round said, “The support for the Golf Foundation Pro-Am proves how much people care about junior golf at the grass roots level and is perhaps a reflection of how our inclusive work with youngsters from all backgrounds in schools is being received. We would like to thank the PGA European Tour for their support for what is always a hugely enjoyable day for all involved, held at an excellent venue. This year’s 20th anniversary event should be particularly special.”
