Next month will see the publication of the 200th issue of Golf News – the UK’s longest-existing free monthly quality golf newspaper.
Launched in 1994 by publisher Matt Nicholson – the year that Nick Price won the Open Championship at Turnberry, and the second season of Colin Montgomerie’s seven-year domination of the Order of Merit – Golf News is now in its 17th year, and continues to offer an informative and entertaining read for golfers in over 500 golf clubs.
As well as reporting on local, regional and international events, Golf News offers an unrivalled mix of player profiles, insightful columns, reviews of the latest equipment and advice on where to play in the UK and abroad – bringing the best of golf to golfers’ fingertips every month.
Golf News was also the first golf title to enter the digital age in 2008, with thousands of golfers and industry professionals now receiving their online copy through direct emails, ensuring they never miss an edition.
The 200th issue, which comes out on June 21, will feature an invaluable Ping-sponsored pull-out guide to The 151st Open Championship, which takes place in July at the magnificent links at Royal St George’s in Kent. As well as a full preview of the tournament.
There will also be exclusive interviews with last year’s Open Champion, Louis Oosthuizen, and we talk to Tour legend Thomas Bjorn about where it all went wrong for him in the bunker at St George’s 16th hole back in 2003.
Elsewhere in this issue, editor Nick Bayly – who will be overseeing his 100th edition in July – will be reporting on his round with big-hitting Spaniard Alvaro Quiros in the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am at Wentworth.
To celebrate the 200th edition, and to ensure golfers across the region will be able to get their hands on a copy, Golf News will be publishing an extra 15,000 copies of the June issue, taking it to more golf clubs, and more golfers, than ever before.
