Leading golf leisurewear manufacturer Glenmuir has extended its sponsorship of the PGA Club Professional Championship to a record 15th year. The Scottish company, already the PGA’s longest running championship sponsor, will support next year’s flagship event taking place at Royal Porthcawl in south Wales on 12-15 June.
Glenmuir, who have also been the preferred supplier of shirts and knitwear to Europe’s Ryder Cup team since 1987, enjoy a strong relationship with many of the PGA’s 7,000 club pros, both in Britain and Europe.
“Our long standing sponsorship of the Club Professional Championship and support of the PGA’s of Europe International Team Championship, provide the foundation of our communication with golf professionals throughout Europe and I am delighted to be able to extend these key partnerships,” said Glenmuir’s managing director Colin Mee.
The Club Professional Championship remains one of the most prized titles for PGA pros with the winner claiming a £10,000 first prize and entry to the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth while the leading finishers also enjoy exemption from regional qualifying for the Open and the chance of winning a place on the PGA Cup team (the club pro’s equivalent of the Ryder Cup).
Sandy Jones, PGA chief executive, added, “The Club Professional Championship is the club pros’ flagship event. It enables those members who work hard in the business of the game to display their skills in the playing arena.
“Glenmuir have been a long-time sponsor of the association and its members and we are delighted that they are continuing their sponsorship for the 2007 event at Royal Porthcawl – the 35th year of the staging of the championship.”
Lanarkshire-based Glenmuir, which was formed in 1891, is also enjoying a busy summer elsewhere as it focuses on the forthcoming Ryder Cup clash at The K Club in September. “The 36th Ryder Cup Matches at The K Club represent Glenmuir’s continued status as preferred supplier to the European Ryder Cup Team since 1987,”added Colin. “We are proud of this association and to have been a part of the victory over the Americans at Oakland Hills and look forward to a successful defence at The K Club this September.”
