Following the distribution of the EGU/ELGA Golf Club Membership Questionnaire in February 2006, over 600 golf clubs have already returned completed surveys. The questionnaire is part of the England Golf’s ‘Whole Sport Plan for Golf’ research strategy.
As an incentive for golf clubs to respond promptly, the EGU/ELGA offered rewards of additional funding for coaching sessions to selected golf clubs that completed and returned their questionnaires before 30th April.
Six golf clubs were randomly selected and have received funding of up to £300 to put towards junior and/or beginners coaching sessions. The clubs receiving the funds are:
- Skipton Golf Club, Yorkshire
- Upton by Chester Golf Club, Cheshire
- Beacon Park Golf Club, Lancashire
- Barnham Broom Golf Club, Norfolk
- Newcastle under Lyme Golf Club, Staffordshire
- Rudding Park Golf Club, Yorkshire
The EGU/ELGA still require all golf clubs that have not yet completed the survey to do so at their earliest convenience. The information collated will help build up an accurate picture of junior and adult membership within golf clubs in England and allow resources to be focussed to best effect in the future.
The questionnaire is circulated every two years and the results are used to build up a picture of junior and adult membership within golf clubs in England. This year for the first time the results will be included as part of the England Golf research strategy.
The aims of the questionnaire are to monitor membership trends within golf clubs in England over time, highlight the effect of current development initiatives and identify where resources are best focused in the future.
