Scottish Golf Southwest drive for visitors

12.10am 16th May 2006 - Travel

The 2006 guide to the birthplace of the Open has just been launched highlighting the best of golf courses and accommodation Scotland’s Southwest has to offer.
The Scottish Golf Southwest (SGSW) guide provides information on nearly 100 courses in the region as well as details on accommodation to fulfil the needs of every golfer.
Whether it be Turnberry or Kilmarnock Barassie, Royal Troon or Western Gailes, all the information a golfer could need is contained in this 64 page booklet, including a fold out map and an extremely useful mileage chart, ideal for planning a pilgrimage to the one of the finest golfing destinations in the world.
Orders for this golfer’s compendium should be made at www.scottishgolfsouthwest.com and a copy of the 2006 guide will be distributed within a few days.
As part of SGSW’s marketing strategy, copies of the guide will also be available at events and tournaments throughout Europe, including the Scandinavian Masters, Seniors Open at Turnberry and BMW International in Germany, as the SGSW team endeavour to attract even more golfers to southwest Scotland.
The southwest of Scotland, Ayrshire specifically, is the birthplace of the Open Championship, Prestwick, and has three Open Championship courses in the area, Royal Troon and Turnberry being the others. Turnberry is the venue for the 2009 Open Championship.
Malcolm Campbell, ambassador of SGSW said, “The whole golfing experience in Southwest Scotland; the courses, accommodation and hospitality all in such close proximity make the area one of the finest golf destinations in the world.
“Our new guide is more comprehensive and user friendly than ever before. It is such an attractive and quality publication that visitors will want to bring it with them and use it to plan their entire trip.”
SGSW is a project funded by VisitScotland, Scottish Enterprise Ayrshire (SEA) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
