Mott MacDonald to engineer Dubai golf estate

Nakheel, developer of more than $30 billion of real estate in Dubai, has announced the appointment of leading UK consultancy firm Mott MacDonald Ltd. to undertake the engineering consultancy services on the first phase of their Jumeirah Golf Estates development.
Mott MacDonald is a wholly independent global company with more than 9,000 staff working in more than 100 countries. Notable projects worldwide include the new Wembley Stadium, Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport, Hong Kong Airport, and the Channel Tunnel. Established for over seventy years in the region, and with local staff exceeding 800, the firm has played key consultancy roles on Dubai Marina and Mall of the Emirates in Dubai as well as power, desalination projects and government related projects throughout the U.A.E.
Jumeirah Golf Estates will be one of the finest residential and golfing communities in the world, boasting four world class golf courses, each of distinctive character, surrounded by the finest residential opportunities in Dubai. Nakheel has created an unprecedented alliance with golfing legends Greg Norman and Vijay Singh. A third name is to be announced soon.
Mott MacDonald has assigned a dedicated team to undertake the infrastructure design and project coordination services. They will be working closely with the Nakheel project development team over the coming months on planning and engineering design of the roads, utilities, landscaping and other civil works, together with a coordination role on the golf course construction.
The appointment relates to Phase A of Jumeirah Golf Estates, which occupies approximately 375 hectares of the northern section of the 1,119 site. The Phase A scope of works includes the first two golf courses, ‘Fire’ and ‘Earth’, both designed by Greg Norman and due to open in 2007; approximately 1,000 serviced villa plots; and commercial retail centre; boutique office park; golf clubhouse and country club; and all associated infrastructure.
The third course ‘Water’ will be designed by Vijay Singh and is due to open in 2008. The fourth course ‘Wind’ will be a links-style course and will also open in 2008. More information on Wind, and the identity of its designer, will be released by Nakheel Golf soon.
