PING – well-known for its support of family golf – is to help hundreds of young boys and girls enjoy something a little extra at The Open this year by sponsoring the clubgolf-Golf Foundation Putting Challenge: a chance for your child to putt like a champion and win a PING putter.
The Junior Golf Centre in the tented village is run by the Golf Foundation and the PGA, supported by the R&A. Located just a pitching wedge shot away from the famous Road Hole 17th on the Old Course, it is expected to welcome up to 4,000 youngsters from 10th to 17th July. Many of these children will take on the Putting Challenge – with a great PING putter up for grabs every day of Open week.
The Golf Foundation – committed to developing junior golf – will run the event alongside its other exciting activities, while the PGA’s team of committed PGA Professionals will be giving free coaching sessions to youngsters every day.
Children from three years old and up can take part in the Challenge using high quality PING putters. The youngsters who post the best score each day will go into a daily draw to win a made-to-measure PING putter that will then be delivered to his/her family home.

To enter, children can just walk in to the Junior Golf Centre and pay £1 to have a go (all money raised goes directly to junior golf development). The Challenge is just one ingredient in the week of junior activities. Apart from the PGA coaching programme, younger children from three years and up can enjoy all the colourful fun of the Tri-Golf game, through ‘free play’ and organised group sessions – hitting soft balls at targets using lightweight, specially modified plastic clubs.
At this year’s event, for the first time, the Golf Foundation will also be profiling clubgolf, the national partnership for the development of junior golf in Scotland that brings together the SGU, SLGA, PGA, Golf Foundation and sportscotland.
