The Faldo Series, Sir Nick Faldo’s global golf development programme, will break new ground next summer when the inaugural Faldo Series Czech Championship is staged at Telč Golf Resort in July.
“We are delighted to announce the new Faldo Series Czech Championship at the Telč Golf Resort in July,” said Faldo. “The new event is one of several to be staged in emerging golfing nations next summer, which we hope will help to develop the sport in those countries by providing young golfers with the competitive experience they need to improve.”
The six-time Major winner added: “We would like to thank the resort’s owners, CZ Golf, and its Chairman, Dr Petr Svrcek, for their help in bringing this tournament to fruition.”
“It is a great honour to host the first Faldo Series event in the Czech Republic and we have no doubt that it will be a huge success and will help us to develop golf within the country,” said Svrcek.
“Over the last few years, we have seen a significant growth in youth golf here in the Czech Republic and the introduction of the Faldo Series event can only help to reinforce this process.”
The new Faldo Series Czech Championship is the first of at least seven Continental events to be included in the 2011 Faldo Series Europe schedule with the others expected to be announced early in the New Year.
The 2011 Faldo Series Europe schedule also includes nine UK Championships held at prestigious venues in England, Scotland and Wales. These include two other new venues, Pyle & Kenfig, at Bridgend, Wales, and The Grove, near Watford, England.
The Telč Golf Resort was opened in 2005 and features a fine 6,252-yard par 72 golf course situated on beautiful natural landscape about 3km from the historic town of Telč which is included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
Supported by major partners The R&A, the European Tour and Lough Erne Resort, the Faldo Series Europe was founded back in 1996. Together with the Faldo Series Asia, which followed in 2006, the Series has supported a host of talented young golfers including three-time LPGA Major winner Yani Tseng, and Tour winners Rory McIlroy, Nick Dougherty, Marc Warren, John Parry, Melissa Reid and Florentyna Parker.
The Faldo Series is open to amateur golfers born in 1990 or later.
