The new TaylorMade Golf r7 quad ht driver, a variation of the popular r7 quad, which is currently the No.1 driver on the European and PGA Tours, has been introduced following increased consumer demand for the benefits of moveable weight technology be made available in a driver that was more suited for higher handicap golfers than the existing r7 quad. As such the r7 quad ht is targeted at players who can increase their distance off the tee by boosting their spin-rate and launch angle.
The r7 quad ht’s clubhead is sized at 400 cubic centimetres (the same as the r7 quad) however it features a shallower, longer clubface and a larger, more substantial clubhead shape when viewed in the address position.
The ht’s different shape gives it a 5% increase in moment of inertia (MOI) versus the original r7 quad, so the ht is slightly more forgiving on mis-hits. Additionally, the difference in the r7 quad ht’s head geometry results in a centre of gravity (CG) position that’s 1.5 millimetres farther back and 1 millimetre lower than the r7 quad. The r7 quad ht’s deeper, lower CG position produces launch conditions that deliver a higher trajectory. TaylorMade testing indicates that the r7 quad ht delivers a one-half degree higher launch angle and an additional 400 rpm of spin than the standard r7 quad. This enables players who require more spin and a higher trajectory to optimise their distance.
The new r7 quad ht driver shares the same advanced technologies that have made TaylorMade’s r7 quad such a phenomenal success, including TaylorMade Launch Control (TLC). TLC technology gives the user the freedom to change the club head’s weighting to create a variety of launch conditions. As with the r7 quad the ht version comes complete with a TLC Torque Wrench, a trajectory wheel for easy understanding of where best to place the weight cartridges to achieve optimum ball flight and a detailed instruction manual that clearly explains how to install, remove and care for the TLC cartridges and TLC ports.
The r7 quad ht is also equipped with TaylorMade’s M.A.S.2 7 shaft, which weighs 55 grams and is available in TS, S, R, and M flexes. A lighter, 50-gram shaft, the M.A.S.2 7-50, is also available in L flex. Loft options include: 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 and 11.5.
The r7 quad ht will be available at retail from March and comes with a recommended retail price of £449
