Glendale wins Royal Park golf course contract

8.30am 11th October 2004 - Corporate

Glendale has strengthened its golf portfolio after being awarded the contract to manage London’s prestigious Richmond Park Golf Course. The two-year contract was awarded to Glendale by the Royal Parks and went live at the beginning of October.
The highly acclaimed facility includes two 18-hole golf courses set in the glorious surroundings of the Royal Richmond Park, which is the largest open space in London, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a national Nature Reserve.
Glendale Golf was launched in 2002 to relieve pressure from local authorities and proprietors of managing golf course facilities. It offers a powerful combination of commercial, management and specialist expertise.
Led by the company’s managing director, Neil Simpson, it provides a complete management and maintenance service to municipal and proprietary owned golf courses providing investment, innovation, specialist skills and resources to maximise revenue. It also manages catering and retail facilities and seeks fresh strategies to attract new players and members.
Neil Simpson said, “We are delighted to be working with the Royal Parks and the appointment signals our growing position in the marketplace. During the next two years we plan to improve the golf courses by investing in a management and maintenance programme.”
The courses are a ‘pay and play‘ facility and a venue for golf clubs and societies. There are no membership requirements. There is also a 16-bay, 250 yard driving range, one of the largest pro shops in the UK and a team of PGA teaching professionals. The superb facilities, surroundings, and herds of red and fallow deer roaming the park are an excellent environment for all the family to play golf.
The park was created by King Charles I in 1637 and consists of woodland and grassland. The golf courses (Dukes and Princes) were originally established in 1923 and designed by F G Hawtree and J.H Taylor, whose design and build partnership was active from 1922 until the outbreak of World War II.
