Rise in online bookings at St Andrews

Over 3,000 rounds of golf at St Andrews Links were booked online in the last 12 months, a rise of nearly 20% on the previous year. The Old Course will be open for play in reverse again in Spring 2005 – the way it was played in the days of Old Tom Morris

Over 3.000 rounds of golf at St Andrews Links were booked online in the last 12 months, a rise of nearly 20% on the previous year. Golfers from around the world made use of the booking system, Linksnet, to organise golf on four of the six courses at the Home of Golf – the New, Jubilee, Eden and Strathtyrum.
Now in its second full year since being re-launched in 2002, Linksnet offers golfers a quick and simple way to organise their golf in advance through the Links Trust’s main website – www.standrews.org.uk.
“Linksnet is still the most golfer-friendly and effective online tee-time booking service we know of – and this is confirmed by the rise in usage and lots of satisfied golfers,” said Peter Mason, external relations manager, St Andrews Links Trust. “It is important to offer visitors a choice of ways to book their golf – and online is an increasingly popular option.”
The Old Course will be open for play in reverse again in Spring 2005. Golfers who wish to book in advance have a choice of three options starting at £110 for a two round package on the Old Course backwards and the Jubilee Course.
Today the 600-year-old course is played in the anti-clockwise direction but in the days of Old Tom Morris, it was played clockwise. This route starts on the 1st tee driving towards the 17th green, then driving from the 17th to the 16th green and so on around the course bringing a different set of hazards into play.
In 2005 the Old Course will be set up in reverse for three days – Friday 1 April, Saturday 2 April, and Monday 4 April
