Six members of TGI Golf, Europe’s leading buying group for golf professionals, are heading off to the States for the trip of a lifetime following victory in the national finals for the TGI/Nike Golf Oven Fourball Championship.

The three pairs will travel to Fort Worth, Texas where they will compete in the Championship final at the world famous Colonial Country Club as well as receiving a VIP tour around The Oven, Nike Golf’s research and development facility.

David Mee (Longcliffe) and Bryn Morris (Kibworth) will represent England, Stuart Syme (Dumfries) and Gary McFarlane (Clober) will play for Scotland while the Irish contingent will be Brendan McGovern (Headfort) and Robert Giles (Greenore).

As well as the all expenses paid trip to the States the winner pairs were also awarded a credit towards their 2011 pre-books with Nike Golf.

Bryn Morris, who with partner David Mee won the English qualifier on countback, said: “I’ve been fortunate to go out to the States two or three times with Northants PGA, but I’ve never been to the Colonial, so it’ll be a different challenge and we’re really looking forward to it.”

Scottish winner Stuart Syme and partner Gary McFarlane saw off their good friends Kenny Hutton (Downfield) and Andrew Crerar (Panmure) by a single point.

Syme said: “What a great prize to win, it’s going to be amazing. It was a funny day at Glenbervie, as we knew Kenny and Andy were playing well and were three ahead of us. We knew they finished par-par-par, then we finished eagle-birdie-birdie to win by one. They’re really good friends so we had some mileage out of beating them, it was all good natured.”

Simon Parkhill, Nike Golf Sales Manager UK & Ireland, added: “We’re delighted with the response we’ve had from the TGI Golf members and would like to thank all that have taken part this year.

“The feedback has been extremely positive and the fourball format and relaxed approach has struck a real chord with the participants. Our aim here was pretty simple, we wanted to get closer to the group and its members, and we wanted to reinforce the message around our investment in the club category – focusing on Nike Golf’s state of the art R&D centre in Fort Worth.”

Eddie Reid, TGI Golf Managing Director, was equally pleased with the way the competition went, and the added value it has given to the members of the group.

He said: “This year TGI Golf has worked with its accredited suppliers to stage more quality events than ever before. I’d like to thank Nike Golf for helping to stage the event and for supplying such a fantastic prize for the guys, I’m sure the winners will be hugely impressed with what they see at The Oven.”
