The Royal Bhutan Golf Federation, recently affiliated to The R&A, and the Ruchill Community Golf Course project in Glasgow, Scotland are just two recipients set to benefit from a range of funding initiatives announced by The R&A. Both will receive substantial consignments of new sets of junior clubs.
The Golf Club of Lebanon in Beirut has recently received reconditioned greenkeeping machinery. Warren Hills in Zimbabwe will also receive equipment and further shipments are being sent to clubs in Kenya, Malawi and Zambia.
In announcing the awards, Duncan Weir, The R&A’s director of golf development said, “We remain strongly committed to promoting golf both nationally and internationally through funding generated by The Open Championship in a number of ways. This is likely to continue as we seek to encourage the expansion of the game’s playing throughout our sphere of governance.”

- All Africa Golf Challenge – £25,000 towards 2004 women’s international amateur team event played in Namibia
- British Amputee Sports Association – £3,000 towards 2004 championship
- Caribbean Golf Association – US$35,000 towards 2004 junior and adult amateur team championships
- European Golf Association – £18,000 towards 2004 European Young Masters event in Austria
- St Andrews Links Trust Junior Golf Association – £10,000 towards ongoing programme
- English Blind Golf Association – £1,000 towards 2004 international match against Scotland
- Paraguay Golf Association – $5,000 US towards 2004 South American Pre-Junior Team Championship
- National Association of Public Golf Courses – £12,500 towards 2004 UK Adult and Junior Championships
- Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils – £1,000 towards national boys‘ tournament
- Brazilian Golf Confederation – $5,000 US towards 2004 South American Junior Team Championships
- Wee Wonders Ltd – £1,500 towards UK wide junior event
- Argentine Golf Association – £25,000 towards 2004 South American men’s and women’s international amateur team championships
- Polish Golf Union – £5,000 towards international qualifying event for 2005 European Men’s Amateur Team Championship
- Society of One Armed Golfers – £1,000 towards 2004 World Championship
- University College Dublin, Belfield – two student bursaries of £1,500 each for the 2004/2005 academic year as new members of The R&A Bursary Scheme
- British Universities Sports Association – £5,000 towards the 2004 men’s and women’s home internationals series being played in Wales
