TGI Golf re-launches trade show

9.00am 26th May 2004 - Exhibitions & Conferences

After an absence of five years, the TGI Golf Show will be staged at the Harrogate International Centre, 2-4 November 2004. TGI Golf (formerly Tartan Golf International) is the leading buying group for golf professionals.
As well as an opportunity for the company’s 350 members to meet and buy from all the key golf suppliers in one place, there will be a series of business seminars open to all PGA professionals.
Ian Johnston, managing director of TGI Golf, said, “We carried out a survey of members and it became clear that people were keen to resurrect our own show, providing we could persuade suppliers to attend.
“I‘m pleased to say we‘ve had a very positive response – well over 90% of the suppliers said they would come. Obviously, it is a lot less expensive for them to exhibit in this country, especially as with our limited space format they don‘t have to get into all the competitive bidding for stand sizes.”
But it won‘t all be buying and selling. A key feature of the exhibition will be the business seminars, which follow on from the successful sessions TGI Golf staged at the Marbella show last November, the first by a buying group to be given CPD accreditation by the PGA.
Among the experts addressing professionals and attendees will be psychologist and advertising executive Philip Hesketh, who will talk on ‘The Psychology of Selling‘. There will also be workshops on retail display and visual merchandising by Colin Lipsey and Pat Canning of Display Works, whose clients include Ashworth Golf and Rangers FC.
“The educational side is very important and will allow pros to talk to us and each other about business issues,” added Ian Johnston.
“But there’s also the positive aspect of bringing together people from across the golf trade and all the good ideas and humour it generates. Out of that, I hope the suppliers and the golf industry as a whole will see that TGI Golf is a cohesive group that is working together and moving forward to meet the challenges of the fast-changing golf market.”
