Sportsmatch award for HSBC ‘Tri-Golf in Action‘

HSBC Tri-Golf in Action, a partnership between HSBC, sponsors of golf’s World Match Play Championship, and the Golf Foundation, the body for developing junior golf, has successfully achieved a maximum Sportsmatch award to support its Tri-Golf project in 2004. Sportsmatch is the business sponsorship incentive scheme for grass roots sport.
The HSBC Tri-Golf in Action project, which is about to embark on its second year, has been specially developed to stimulate grass roots junior golf activity within the primary education sector. This sustained support of grassroots golf forms part of HSBC’s comprehensive long-term investment in golf.
The Sportsmatch award will significantly enhance the HSBC Tri-Golf in Action project. The maximum award of £50,000 is being given to the scheme. Mike Round, chief executive of the Golf Foundation said, “A £50,000 Sportsmatch award will make a tremendous addition to the grassroots programme and enable thousands more children to have the opportunity to experience golf for the very first time. It will give children, who would not normally get the chance to participate in golf, the opportunity to enjoy the game and learn new skills.”
William Parry, HSBC’s head of sponsorship said, “Last year HSBC embarked upon not only the title sponsorship of the World Match Play Championship, but also a comprehensive support programme taking the great game of golf to a wide audience. The activity with the Golf Foundation in this first year, donating Tri-Golf kit into over 100 schools, was particularly successful and complimented much of the good work by our network of local branches in these communities. We look forward to growing the reach and success of the partnership for the long-term personal development of the participating children and the sport of golf as a whole.”
The programme will commence within the next month culminating with junior golf activity at the World Match Play event itself in October.
