Royal Air Maroc collaborates with The Social Golfer– the UK’s biggest golf society – for the prestigious International Golf Trophy that took place in Casablanca from November 14–17, 2024.
The inaugural event was held at the prestigious El Jadida Golf Course and the Golf of Mazagan in Casablanca and spanned three days. Two amateur players from the 11 countries served by Royal Air Maroc, including Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, France, the USA, Canada, and the UK, were selected to participate.
The Social Golfer chose two winners of their four annual Major events: 2024 Social Golfer Pairs Winner, John Moody from Oxfordshire (Handicap 18), and 2024 Social Golfer Matchplay Winner, Roger Dickson from London (Handicap 19). Both played together as a team (pictured) based on a Stableford format, finishing 8th overall. Both competed using The Social Golfer’s Global Handicap Certificate.
Royal Air Maroc, Morocco’s national airline, is known for connecting travellers to destinations worldwide, particularly enhancing accessibility between Europe and Africa, with a commitment to quality service and a global reach.
The event brought together the participants, offering them an all-expenses-paid trip with three rounds of golf and a four-night stay at the Pullman Hotel. Royal Air Maroc covered flights, airport-hotel transfers, green fees, as well as some meals and accommodations.
The top three ‘net’ teams and the top gross team were crowned winners, with the Morocco team emerging as victors.
Speaking on the collaboration, Royal Air Maroc UK general manager, Zoubida Smahi, said,“We are thrilled to partner with The Social Golfer to showcase winners of the UK’s top amateur golf events on an international stage. This collaboration not only provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for amateur golfers to experience the beauty of Moroccan courses, but it also strengthens our commitment to positioning Morocco as a premier golf destination. We look forward to welcoming players and golf enthusiasts to our beautiful country.”
Ian Mullins, owner and editor of The Social Golfer, said, “We were thrilled when Royal Air Maroc approached us about putting forward some of this year’s Social Golfer event winners for the Royal Air Maroc Golf Trophy in Casablanca. It is a huge compliment to all the hard work we have done in the last 15 years in raising our profile that a global airline with such a great reputation should invite us to take part. We look forward to working with Zoubida and her team to raise awareness of Morocco as a truly great golfing destination.”
