Bolton Old Links Golf Club in Lancashire has been given the green light to build a new clubhouse after plans to demolish its existing clubhouse were given approval by the local council.
The club applied for permission to knock down the building, which dates back to the early 1800s, more than three years ago. The application was approved by Bolton Council at a meeting of the Planning Committee on September 12.
The new clubhouse will be built on a site close to the moorland golf course’s 10th hole, while a development of 12 residential homes is to be built on the site of the former clubhouse.
In explaining its need for a new building, the club’s planning application stated: “Bolton Old Links Golf Club is seeking to improve its off-course facilities and to introduce higher profile amateur and professional golf events at the course in line with those held in the years of 1972-98 after which the course was downgraded by the PGA and other organisations due to inadequate off-course facilities.”
The new 12,800 square foot clubhouse is being designed by Warrington-based architects C4Projects. A date for its completion has not been announced.
