Burger is king with Cobra at world long drive championship

12.05am 17th November 2003 - Corporate

As 96 of the world’s longest hitters of a golf ball gathered at the Palms Golf Course in Nevada, USA for the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship, one participant and one golf club withstood the sport’s ultimate test. Clayton Burger, relying upon his King Cobra driver, unleashed a dramatic 402 yard 5 inch blast on the last of his six allotted drives to become the second consecutive first-timer to win the men’s open division and its $80,000 first prize.
Under a clear, evening desert sky and calm conditions, Burger’s 402-yard drive marked just the second time in the event’s 29-year history when the winning drive exceeded 400 yards. Fellow King Cobra loyalist Jason Zuback was the first to achieve the milestone when he posted a wind-aided 412-yard effort in 1997 to win the second of his record-setting four consecutive titles. Burger also posted a 403-yard drive during the afternoon semi-finals that stood as the longest of the week in the Men’s Open division.
“This is just unbelievable, something I never expected to happen this fast,” said Burger “This King Cobra driver is the hottest I have ever hit. I look forward to a great relationship with Cobra and hope to continue improving upon my performance with its advanced technology equipment.” Burger captured the title with a King Cobra SS driver head with 4 degrees of loft.
A native of Texas, the 25-year old 6‘4″, 230lbs Burger is a former college baseball player and earned an exemption on the 2004 Long Drivers Association Tour and five-year exemption into the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship.
Earlier this year Cobra was confirmed as the fastest growing equipment brand in golf with impressive market share gains in both the US and UK markets, resulting in Cobra taking the #3 position¹ in metal wood sales on both sides of the Atlantic during the peak season. This latest success at the World Long Drive Championship provides further evidence that the King Cobra SS driver’s phenomenal distance attributes, with the huge head and thin face producing a ‘hot‘ forgiving sweetspot, deliver an unbeatable combination of distance, accuracy and forgiveness suited to golfers of all abilities.
