Trump’s Development is Underway

9.54am 30th June 2010 - Course Development

Golf Course Architect Dr Martin Hawtree

Aberdeenshire Council today granted full planning permission for the construction of Donald J. Trump’s championship links golf course in the north-east of Scotland. Now with full planning approval, work will commence tomorrow, July 1, 2010.

Commenting on Formartine Area Committee’s decision, Donald J. Trump stated: “Today my team will finally get to work and build the world’s greatest golf course for Scotland and for the great game of golf. We are building on the finest piece of land I have ever seen and we will turn it into a national jewel – people will travel from around the world to play the course and experience its beauty.”

Appointed in February of this year, SOL Golf Course Construction Limited, the lead contractor for the construction of the golf course, will mobilise first thing in the morning.

Initial works will include the creation of construction access routes and compounds, and other associated infrastructure requirements, followed by the detailed shaping of the golf course.

Future detailed applications include the maintenance facility and clubhouse, which are currently being prepared for submission later this year. Detailed designs for subsequent phases will be presented in due course.

After more than four years of planning and development, The Trump Organisation has engaged over 20 leading Scottish consultants in the preparation of its plans and has invested over £40 million to date.

Nine planning applications and a lengthy public inquiry have formed part of the rigorous process that the project has undertaken in order to reach this stage. Many observers say that this project is the most scrutinised golf development application in recent UK history.

Upon completion of all future phases, including the hotel, resort accommodation and leisure facilities, Trump International – Scotland is anticipated to generate an annual gross value added of £50m and over 1,200 permanent jobs.

The Trump Organisation has expressed its gratitude to Aberdeenshire Council, the entire legal and project development team, and, in particular, to the people of the north-east of Scotland who publicly supported the project.

Donald J. Trump awarded the multi-million pound golf course construction contract to SOL Golf Course Construction Limited in February 2010.

Growing from an Irish based operation to include projects across the British Isles, SOL has worked on many of the world’s best golf courses and is currently working on various Open Championship courses on behalf of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews including Royal Liverpool, Royal Lytham & St Anne’s, Muirfield and Royal Birkdale.

Working alongside Dr Martin Hawtree, golf course architect for Trump International – Scotland, SOL is now responsible for developing all aspects of the championship links course.  SOL and Hawtree have worked on a number of award-winning projects together including Portmarnock Golf Course, Lahinch Golf Course and Dooks Golf Course.

The championship golf course is scheduled for completion in 2012.
