Musselburgh to host Scottish Golf Heritage Festival

Musselburgh Old Course Golf Club, the club at the world’s oldest golf course, is hosting The Scottish Golf Heritage Festival on 12 July, 2010.

The tournament, celebrates the 150th anniversary of the first Open Champion Willie Park Senior. Born in Musselburgh, Scotland, Willie Park Senior (1834 – 1903) is remembered as one of the greatest golfers of history. Locals from Scotland will be joined by golfers from all over the world with entries being received from Japan, USA, England, Europe and Canada.

First Minister Alex Salmond said: “There is nowhere in the world better than Scotland to enjoy golf. I am delighted that golf fans will have the chance to celebrate and remember Willie Park Senior – one of the game’s greatest players – at the historic setting of Musselburgh Old Course.”

The event will be attended by Tony Jacklin, Ryder Cup, British and US Open winner. Commenting on his involvement Jacklin said “I am delighted to be attending this event at the world’s oldest golf course. I hope golfers sit up and take notice of how important Musselburgh was to the formation of the game we all enjoy today.”

Participants will also be amazed and delighted by David Edwards, premier Trick Golf Show Entertainer.
