Charley Hull bags second LPGA Tour title

England’s Charley Hull fired a final round 64 to win The Ascendant LPGA Benefitting Volunteers of America with an 18-under-par total at the Old American Golf Club in Texas.

The 26-year-old from Kettering claimed her second career LPGA Tour win and sixth worldwide victory, with rounds of 67, 64, 71 and 61 to beat China’s Xiyu Lin by a single shot.

Using a full bag of TaylorMade clubs and the brand’s TP5x ball, Hull was dialled in the entire round on Sunday, firing four birdies in her first seven holes to cover the front nine in 32. On the back nine, Hull’s surge began with a surgical approach shot from 141 yards out to eight feet at the 12th to take the solo lead.

Then, on the par-5 13th, Hull hit a wedge to two feet for a tap-in birdie. On the following hole, Hull hit her approach to 12 feet and drained a 15-footer to make her third consecutive birdie to take a three-shot lead with four holes to go.

Another birdie at the par-4 17th, where she hit her approach to five feet, saw Hull reach the 18th with a one-shot lead, and when Lin was unable to find a closing birdie, Hull’s par was good enough to seal her first win on US soil since 2016.

After collecting the trophy, and the $255,000 first prize, Hull said: “I have come close a few times since last winning a title, but I have put in some good work this year. I knew my game is there, it was just a question of finding the confidence.I felt in control of my game all week, and I feel very proud of myself to have got back in the winner’s circle.”

Hull joins Laura Davies and Alison Nicholas on the list of English women to have won multiple LPGA Tour titles.
