Titleist updates Velocity and TruFeel golf balls

2.53pm 3rd February 2022 - New Products

Titleist has launched new and improved versions of its two-piece golf ball models, Velocity and TruFeel, both of which will be at retail from February 4.

Velocity

The 2022 Velocity ball is designed to offer longer driver and long iron distance, extremely low long game spin, high flight on all shots and playable greenside feel.

This is accomplished through a new higher compression core, which generates faster speed on full swing shots; a reformulated cover combination, and a new spherically-tiled octahedral dimple design which promotes a consistent and high flight trajectory.

Frederick Waddell, Titleist’s Director of Golf Ball Product Management, said: “This golf ball is fun for our team. We‘re designing for a golfer looking for distance, and that allows us to be singularly focused on speed and overall distance through the bag. We were able to achieve the performance goals of longer driver and iron distance, while maintaining its high flight and greenside playability through new and reformulated core and cover technology.”

Mike Madson, Titleist’s Director of Aerodynamics and Research Engineering, added: “We take the same principles and fundamentals that we utilise in the Pro V1 and AVX and apply them to Velocity. It is a matter of balancing the components to achieve the goals for Velocity of increased overall distance and improved greenside spin. In this case we developed a higher compression core and complemented that with a new cover formulation. The combination of those two factors helped us meet and exceed the expectations we had for this product.”

Priced at £28 for 12, the Velocity is on sale in white-only models now, but will also be offered in three matt colours – orange, green and blue – from October 1.

TruFeel

The previous edition of the TruFeel ball was already the softest in Titleist’s range, but the new model has been re-designed for more distance than ever before in combination with even softer greenside feel.

Performance has been enhancements through the introduction of a larger and faster core along with high-performance aerodynamics to deliver longer distance. A thinner, reformulated TruFlex cover provides the improved feel and control for shots around the green, while a spherically-tiled 376 tetrahedral dimple design features a symmetrically optimised pattern to enhance long game distance. A side stamp provides golfers an easy alignment aid.

Waddell said: “The TruFeel golfer is primarily focused on long and soft, but also seeks overall performance. The new 1.600” core is very large for such a soft golf ball. By adding more fast rubber to the golf ball, we add more speed for distance, but we also needed to balance the increased core size by reformulating a slightly thinner cover. The result is softer feel, and similar spin with more speed for longer distance.”

Priced at £24.99 per dozen, TruFeel is offered in white and high optic yellow, both of which are available from retailers worldwide from February 4. A Matte Red version will be available from the beginning of October.
