Tiger Woods proved that he still has to power to ‘move the needle’ when last weekend’s coverage of the PNC Championship, a fathers and sons tournament played at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Florida, drew a record-breaking TV audience for the event.
The 36-hole tournament, which featured Woods’ return to competitive golf following his career-threatening road accident 10 months ago, averaged 2.3 million viewers across NBC and Peacock – making it the most watched PNC Championship since 2000, when 2.6m viewers tuned in, and a 53% increase on last year’s event (1.5m).
The audience peaked at 3.2m on Sunday afternoon as Woods, who was playing with his son Charlie moved into contention on the back nine.
Team Woods eventually finished second, two shots behind John Daly and John Daly II, with the winners shooting a record-breaking 27-under-par for the two-round event.
GOLF Channel delivered its two largest audiences ever for the PNC Championship, with Saturday’s coverage posting an event-record of 949,000 viewers, which more than doubled the prior record (430,000 for Sunday coverage in 2020). Peacock presented exclusive early round coverage each day.
The tournament accounted for 37 of the 50 most-viewed clips on NBCSports.com last week, with audiences
