Golf Foundation bids to raise £4,000 from the Big Give Christmas Challenge

4.18pm 30th November 2021 - Growing the Game

The Golf Foundation is taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2021 to raise £4,000 in just one week for a special project helping children from different backgrounds to thrive through golf.

The project will bring golf to a community that will benefit strongly from the national charity’s support. Working closely with a PGA Professional at a local golf facility, youngsters from area schools and/or community groups will discover golf for the first time.

Fun and inclusive golf sessions will first be provided to young people in their familiar environment. Follow-on golf learning will then be given by the PGA Professional at the local golf venue to provide continuity, while breaking down the barriers to youngsters enjoying a golf facility.

The project will culminate with an inter-school/club festival played in a lively competitive format. All the youngsters can socialise and make friendships while discovering key elements and benefits of golf as a team sport, including valuable life skills.

Donations to this project will be generously matched by the Golf Foundation’s supporters, and the charity’s ‘Big Give Champion’, The Reed Foundation, during the campaign. This means your money can support twice as many children and young people. One donation, twice the impact!

Golf Foundation Head of Fundraising Vanessa Bell said: “As we enter into the Festive Season, we are asking all golfers to come together and create a community of giving to help more young people play golf. This year, we will be raising money to give opportunities for youngsters from disadvantaged communities to take part in a project that will introduce them to golf and help ignite great life skills such as confidence, perseverance, and leadership. We will also provide equipment and training in golf for the teachers and community club leaders so that golf can become part of their activity on a regular basis. This is such an exciting opportunity for our charity.”

The Golf Foundation is looking to raise a total of £4,000 in one week. In order to access the £2,000 the Foundation has in its matching pot, the team needs to raise £2,000 in online donations.

Bell added: “We hope everyone will give generously this Christmas to help us reach our target and help us to carry on the work we all feel so passionately about. Any donation regardless of size will be hugely appreciated by our team.”
