Government removes remaining countries from red list for ‘urgent travel’

12.45pm 29th October 2021 - Travel

The UK government has announced that from November 1 all destinations currently on the red list will move to the non-red ‘rest of world’ list.

The red list will remain for Covid variants of concern. The original traffic light system detailed which tests were needed to take before and after returning to the UK, and how long, if at all, travellers needed to quarantine for.

In early October the government dropped the amber classification for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, meaning countries now fall into either a red ‘no-go’ list or a green ‘rest of world’ list.

From 1 November, current red-list countries Colombia, Peru, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Venezuela and Ecuador will move onto the green list, meaning those returning from those destinations will not need to quarantine in a hotel if arriving into England.

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have not confirmed whether they will follow suit in moving some or all of the existing red list countries to the green list.

However a number of destinations still require British travellers to quarantine on arrival, including Thailand, while Morocco has banned all flights to and from the UK.
