Competitors at this year’s International Pairs UK and world finals will have no excuses for being unaware how they are faring after the world’s largest competition for club golfers teamed up with innovative live golf scoring company VPAR for the second year running.
VPAR’s cutting-edge technology will record every shot played at the UK Final at De Vere’s Wychwood Park, Cheshire, in September and the International Pairs World Final, which is being held at The Carrick on Loch Lomond a month later.
Using a hand-held device, each player will score their round and VPAR’s technology will then immediately calculate their net score and update all live leaderboards, leaving the golfer in no doubt about where they stand in the competition and what they need to do to win.
The technology was used for the first time by International Pairs at last year’s world final at Carnoustie and managing director Ross Honey believes the continued presence of VPAR will add an extra dimension to the finals.
Honey said: “International Pairs prides itself on creating a real professional tournament atmosphere for amateurs and we are very excited at having VPAR on board for 2010. The VPAR scoring system means that, whether out on the course or in the clubhouse, the leaderboards will be updated instantly which increases the realism, excitement and pressure for everyone taking part. VPAR also enables spectators from all over the world to follow the players’ progress live online.”
VPAR, who ran 175 events last year includinge. professional golf events, pro ams, amateur series and the biggest corporate golf day in Europe, join an impressive list of sponsors who have agreed to back International Pairs in 2010 including the De Vere hotel group, leading golf clothing brand Glenmuir and Excel Golf Products.
Jason Stoop, VPAR managing director, said: “We are proud to be supporting International Pairs for a second year running. It’s a fantastic tournament and extremely competitive so is a great fit for VPAR.”
Last year’s International Pairs world final saw competitors from 20 countries including South Africa, America, Portugal and Antigua and Barbuda do battle at Carnoustie, with Canadian teenagers Marilyne Cadieux and Saby Dagenais creating history by becoming the first female winners of the event.
