adidas Golf has introduced a limited-edition Stan Smith Golf shoe to cekebrate the return of the ZOZO Championship to its traditional Japanese venue.
The limited-edition footwear was designed in celebration of the tournament’s return to Japan following a one-year absence where the tournament was played in the United States in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Inscribed on the heel of the limited-edition footwear is this philosophy – “Be unique. Be equal.” – a charge driven by ZOZO’s hope that we can all help create a world where both uniqueness and equality are valued.
The all-black upper, which is the result when all colours are mixed, and eye-catching multi-coloured outsole are deliberate, meant to embody this powerful declaration to all.
“We are honoured to celebrate the return of the ZOZO Championship to Japan with this truly special collaboration with the tournament host,” said Masun Denison, global director of footwear, adidas Golf. “In the process of our collaboration with ZOZO, their company philosophy of “Be unique. Be equal.” really spoke to our team and resonated with us as brand. We wanted to somehow capture this bold declaration within a special design, so we’re extremely proud with how the finished product came together, especially since it’s on one of our most iconic silhouettes.”
This is the Stan Smith model adidas Golf has introduced which features an upper made in part with recycled materials, all of which is part of the brand’s mission to help end plastic waste.
“It is our great honour to be a part of this Stan Smith Golf project,” said Meg Hatakeyama, vice president of marketing, ZOZO Inc and tournament director for the ZOZO Championship. “To celebrate the tournament’s return to Japan, we feel this collaboration is a perfect fit. ZOZO hopes to make the world a better place through the power of fashion, and this partnership embodies our slogan to the fullest. We’re excited to give our fans the opportunity to wear this special edition shoe at this year’s ZOZO Championship!“
The Stan Smith Golf features adiwear rubber spikeless outsole with traction inspired by the shoe’s original sole design. A die-cut PU sockliner and additional PU cushioning in the midsole provide golf-specific support in every step. This version is also waterproof to help keep feet dry. This limited-edition will also come with a commemorative shoe bag inspired by the shoe’s design.
It will be available in limited quantities on adidas.com, the adidas app, and at select retail partners worldwide beginning October 15, with availability in Japan beginning October 18.
