2020 Order of Merit winner Gary Wolstenholme has welcomed the return of the Masters Pro Golf Tour in 2021 following what has been a testing year in 2020.
The Masters Pro Golf Tour is an event for UK and overseas golfers who are looking to stay competitive but may find themselves between Tours. One of the most inclusive professional events in the country, the competition takes inspiration from the Challenge Tour, with no restrictions on nationality or gender.
With competition venues located around the country, its return in 2021 will be welcome news to fans patiently awaiting their golfing fix in what has been a disruptive year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Wolstenholme, who topped the Order of Merit in 2020 thanks to his fantastic and consistent performances over the course of the season, said: “The Masters Pro Golf Tour is a superb event and I’m thrilled to see it return for 2021. It’s a great Tour to bridge the gap for those players who are too young for the Legends Tour but perhaps no longer comfortable playing on the European or Challenge Tour. It’s a great opportunity to keep golfing while playing at some truly wonderful courses, make a bit of money and, of course, have fun.”
Other star names who will be taking part in the tour include six-time European Tour winner Paul Broadhurst, three-time Legends Tour winner David Shacklady, 2017 Farmfoods British Par 3 champion Rich O’Hanlon, and three-time Challenge Tour winner Phillip Archer.
The Masters Pro Golf Tour events are open to all professional golfers from the UK and overseas aged 48 and over, and as well as amateurs with a recognised index of 9 or less.
With many golf events having to be postponed in 2020 due the Covid-19 pandemic, the Masters Pro Golf Tour will be hoping to welcome spectators back in 2021 once restrictions government restrictions allow.
Wolstenholme added: “We’re all delighted that professional golf has now returned, and we are keeping our fingers crossed that by the time the 2021 Masters Pro Golf Tour tees off, spectators will be back cheering us on. Golf brings a whole host of benefits to both physical and mental wellbeing and we are looking forward to getting back out there in a Covid safe manner.”
A couple of events have already been added to the 2021 schedule at Richmond Golf Club in Surrey (Oct 3-5) and Saunton Golf Club in Devon (Oct 26-28).
Elsewhere, fans can also catch the action on the recently-renamed Legends Tour, formerly known as the Staysure Tour, in 2021, alongside major names such as Paul Lawrie, Jean van de Velde and winner of the 2019 edition of this event, Jean-Francois Remesy, between 17-20 June at Trevose Golf and Country Club in Cornwall.
Applications to take part in the Masters Pro Golf Tour are open, with those interested invited to email their enquiries to info@themastersprogolftour.com. The cost of annual membership for the season is £100, with entry fees on top.
