Mizuno added another chapter to its rich history on tour with a win for its MP-18 SC irons in the hands of the highly impressive A Lim Kim at the Women’s US Open at Champions Golf Club in Texas.
The win is the second major for Mizuno irons in 2020 – following Sei Young Kim’s victory in October at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
Korean A Lim Kim, who mainly plays on the KLPGA, shot the lowest round of the week (67), needing birdies on 16, 17 and 18 to win by just one shot. This was Kim’s first US Open and just third LPGA start.
Kim’s favoured Mizuno MP-18 SC’s are a small player’s cavity, which are grain flow forged at Mizuno’s plant in Hiroshima.
With over 50 contracted players Mizuno Korea is fast emerging as a hot bed of talent for Mizuno on the LPGA Tour.
Chris Voshall, Mizuno’s chief club designer, said: “Our team in Korea do an incredible job working with players and accumulating wins for Mizuno on the world stage. Combine that with Mizuno’s skill in producing these incredible Grain Flow Forged irons and you have a pretty effective combination.”
