Wales Golf has welcomed the return of group play, taking into account Welsh Government and COVID-19 golf guidelines, as part of the opening up of golf clubs starting today (Monday). And there is a reminder of the #WalesBack2Golf campaign to encourage people to take up or return to an outdoor sport providing exercise and relaxation in a way which maintains social distancing.
Golf clubs are opening up to the new normal, with more players grouped together and pay-and-play golf possible, while the Wales Golf campaign targets mental health, daily exercise and family/household golf.
As group coaching is now able to resume, Wales Golf is launching the New2Golf scheme for 2020.
“We are delighted golf clubs can now return to something like normal operation, with groups of up to four people playing, outdoor refreshment and people being able to play-and-play,” said Wales Golf chief executive Richard Dixon. “We believe this is a good time to remind people about the benefits and enjoyment of playing golf, along with the opportunities for coaching and social gathering to help people take up or restart playing.
Encouraging members back to their clubs but also targeting beginners and potential new golfers, Wales Golf has designed various social media posts to promote the physical and mental benefits of the sport.
New and returning golfers are being encouraged to use the hashtag #WalesBack2Golf across social media.
The hashtags are aligned to Wales Golf’s ongoing #New2Golf and #Back2Golf coaching programmes, which target new and lapsed golfers across the country.
Hannah McAllister, Director of Golf Development, Wales Golf, said, “The Coronavirus pandemic will have a lasting impact with a number of government protocols which still need to be strictly adhered to, notably social distancing.
“We are encouraging golfers and perhaps new golfers along to clubs through our #WalesBack2Golf social media campaign promoting physical and mental health.
“We are also aligned to the #BeActiveWales campaign which is a co-ordinated effort in Wales to help keep every person active.”
